Davide Piganzoli
Pro team
Piganzoli, the second of three brothers, hails from the Valtellina. It’s there that he took his first steps: “I was eight years old, my father is very passionate about cycling and he also rides a bike. He bought me a Vicini and it was love at first sight. Road bikes would come a couple of years later when there was an event in Morbegno where kids could try them in the square. After a few pedals, I immediately told my mom that I wanted to do this for the rest of my life. My parents agreed, but it was summer and we had to leave. It was the… longest holiday ever since I couldn’t wait to get back home and practice cycling! I even got my older sister Alice hooked and she raced for a while. I started with Pedale Morbegnese until, at 14, I joined Trevigliese near Bergamo. A bigger structure, with an important race calendar, where I stayed for four years before moving to the U23 team of the Fundación Contador…” and the rest is a beautiful story, part written and part still to be written. In the U23 category years: Italian ITT championship, top-10 at the U23 Giro and a podium at the Tour de l’Avenir. In the (now extended to three) years with the ProTeam, where he was promoted with full merit thanks to his determination and belief that he could compete with the best, he had a 2023 full of progress that in 2024 bore the first sweet fruits: his first career win, dominating the Tour of Antalya, opening a series of prominent performances in the climbs. At the Giro d’Italia, an attacking day in the Livigno queen stage and a 13th place overall, which remains the best GC result in the young history of Polti Visit Malta at the corsa rosa. Finally, the memorable 3rd place at the Giro dell’Emilia behind legends like Pogacar and Pidcock. A sociable guy, well-liked by everyone, he has a soft spot for Pinguini Tattici Nucleari but has gradually developed a passion for the Spanish music that’s very popular in the team.
