Team Polti VisitMalta in Turkey looking to get back to winning ways

From tomorrow until next Sunday, Team Polti VisitMalta will be competing on the eastern borders of Europe in an eight-day race officially known as the Presidential Cycling Tour of Türkiye. The overall winner will claim the turquoise jersey (a color chosen to evoke the name of the country) but also up for grabs are the green points classification jersey, the red KOM jersey, and the white intermediate sprints jersey. Bunch finishes are expected at both the opening and closing stages, with the queen stage being the fourth, ending with a 9 km climb at a 10% gradient towards Kıran. Stage six will feature an explosive uphill finish, while the remaining stages are expected to end in different-sized groups depending on the balance between breakaways and fast wheels’ squads. Polti VisitMalta lines up with climbers Fernando Tercero and Germán Gómez, sprinters Giovanni Lonardi and Manuel Peñalver, roster leaders Mirco Maestri and Diego Sevilla, with the strong support by Pablo García.

Peñalver: “I really like the Tour of Turkey, there are many opportunities for sprinters but we’ll also target the general classification with Tercero and Gómez. We’ll give our all to bring home a good haul of points!”

Sports director Giovanni Ellena: “This is our last competition before the Giro d’Italia, and it’s where Lonardi claimed our most recent victory last year. A fully deserved win, although it came after a rival was relegated for an irregular sprint. This time, the goal is to win by raising our arms in triumph ahead of everyone.”
