Team Polti VisitMalta, affected by crashed in Vuelta a la Montaña Central

The Vuelta a la Montaña Central showed once again the great level of Aitor Martínez, fighting for the victory on the second day. However, a crash on the third day took him out of the fight for the race and the team finished out of the top positions.
Unfortunate for Team Polti VisitMalta in the Vuelta a la Montaña Central, where they started with great ambitions that they confirmed in the first days. The sprint finish on the first day confirmed the high level of Óscar Orts, who finished in 4th position. The second stage was already climbers’ terrain, with Aitor Martínez trying to be in the group that took part in the sprint, but finishing in 4th position.
Bad luck meant that on the third day, Aitor Martínez himself suffered a fall from which he tried to recover mentally, but the bumps and injuries weighed him down in the final part of the race. Unable to defend his privileged position, Gonçalo Rodrigues was the best placed Polti VisitMalta rider. The closing of the competition showed again an Óscar Orts capable of riding in the chasing groups together with Aitor Martínez. Both fought for the top-10 in a short and very explosive day.
Isaac Cantón, sports director: “The first days we were affected by crashes, with Nacho Sánchez and Aitor Martínez, who crashed again on the third day and left his chances in the general classification. I’m happy because they rode well but in the key moments we lacked a point. I’m happy with the riders’ ability to recover, but with the pace of the race, the incidents left no room for recovery”.
