Matteo Compagnoni

Junior

One of the three riders who were already part of the squad last year and the only Italian in the roster, Compagnoni is a young man shaped by the mountains. Immersed in the alpine scenery of Valfurva, a village of 2,000 inhabitants at the foot of the Gavia Pass in Valtellina — the homeland of the Pedranzini family and the Kometa sponsor — he’s a rider with a rather robust physique. He balances his sports activities with excellent academic performance in a tourism-focused accounting school. Until two years ago, he split his time between cycling and skiing, practicing alpine skiing with the Reit Ski Team and cycling with Pedale Morbegnese. He has always had the right approach to mountain climbing on a bike: since he was young, he would join his father and uncles on their rides, and at the age of 8 he tackled his first Gavia ascent. It was Daniele Cantoni, a former U23 rider for the Fundación Contador team and now a mechanic for Polti VisitMalta, originally from Bormio, who encouraged him to fully commit to cycling. Matteo had the opportunity to participate in the summer training camp of what was then Eolo Kometa, where he stood out during climbs to Lago di Cancano and Livigno. Shortly after, his journey with this team began. In 2025, he’s eager to bounce back from a 2024 season in which he raced less than his teammates due to breaking the scaphoid bone in his right arm during the summer.
