Jaume Barceló comes close to a podium at the Copa de España in Montemayor

GP Montemayor (134km)

Good race for Team Polti VisitMalta U19 in the second round of the Copa de España. The Cordoba town of Montemayor hosted a race in which the team fought for the leading positions and was on the doorstep of the podium with Jaume Barceló.

Óscar Orts was affected by a heavy fall that did not allow him to maintain his privileged position in the Copa de España. He was unable to defend his options, after his top-10 in the Circuito del Guadiana.

Once the race was launched, the team could not be in the breakaway and has kept the attention behind the movements of the rest of the favourites. Barceló together with Villate (Alimco) have moved in search of the head of the race, without managing to neutralize. The effort was rewarded with fourth place for the Spaniard, with Aitor Martínez in the main group behind and also Gonçalo Rodrigues in front.

Sports director Isaac Cantón explained at the end of the race: ‘I like the way the team rode, we left a bit of responsibility to other squads to move the race. We were affected by the crash, but then we knew how to compete with Barceló and we were just outside the podium. We have a lot of races ahead of us and we will keep fighting’.
