A day in the breakaway for the offensive Vicente Hernaiz, finally third in Titaguas

11º Vuelta a la Provincia de Valencia
Stage 3: Benageber – Titaguas (130,2 km)

He was in the breakaway at kilometre 22 and was less than a thousand metres from his personal best. A great stage for Vicente Hernaiz in the Volta a Valencia, looking for the breakaway, fighting to consolidate it, fighting for a partial victory which, depending on the time gains, could also provide a generous boost in the general classification. Hernaiz finished third in Titaguas, where the Italian Walter Calzoni won and Benjamín Prades was second.

Hernaiz was part of a breakaway that ended up consolidating with seven riders, completed by Pablo Castrillo (5), Miguel Ángel Silva (22), Ferran Robert (63), Adrián Albiach (126), Walter Calzoni (126) and Omer Lahav (186). With a good collaboration in a not easy terrain, the breakaway rode with up to three minutes. The entry of several teams in the main group reduced the advantage to a minute and a half, at which point, with the race having passed the one hundred kilometre mark, there were some movements in the breakaway.

Hernaiz, Calzoni and Lahav were strong in their insistence with a revived margin of between a minute and a minute and a half. In the peloton there were several movements in search of the head of the race, including one by Benjamín Prades with the lead on the horizon. In the final kilometre, the vanguard of these movements finally caught up with a trio in which, after several attacks, Calzoni had gone off to take the win. Prades, finally second, took the lead. Vicente Hernaiz jumps up to fourteenth place overall, 1’44” behind Prades, ahead of the final stage in Moncada.
