When the results are unfair to the great work done during the day

XLVIII Gran Premio Montemayor / Copa de España Junior: Montemayor – Montemayor (137,6 km)

The Gran Premio Montemayor cycling race made its debut in the Spanish Junior Cup with a vibrant final edition where Pablo Lospitao (Electromercantil) overtook Vladimir Goncharov (Maderas Fores) almost at the line, previously escaped from a select leading group in which Gerard Cano was present until the last stages but lost positions when he began to suffer cramps.

Great work by the team led by Gorka Beloki, attentive to the different situations in the race (Manu Sanroma, for example, was involved in an offensive movement at the end of the first of the two laps of the course that hosted the race) and effective and decisive in the work at the front of the peloton to bring down another breakaway before the second pass through the great orographic difficulty of the race.

On the climb to Llano del Espinar Pablo Lospitao (Electromercantil) and Hugo Tenorio (MMR), among others, moved, and Gerard Cano was present. Six riders would join up in the rear field, a vanguard in which Cano could not follow, in the end overtaken by a chasing group, more and more selected, in the hard final towards the viewpoint of La Campiña.

Gorka Beloki, director of EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team: “In terms of result, aseptically, the race has not been good for us, but beyond the numbers, looking at the circumstances and the evolution of the race I am happy because I have seen very interesting things and at the end it has also been a pity that Gerard suffered a cramp problem. It was a 140-kilometre race with increasing heat that was very hard”.
