U23 ITT: Wollongong – Wollongong (23,8 km ITT)

Italian rider Davide Piganzoli competed under the Azzurri flag in the U23 time trial at the Wollongongong World Cycling Championships, which are being held this week in this town south of the populous Sydney.

Piga, current Italian champion of the discipline, finished 16th with a time of 35’58” in an Australian event where the gold and the world title went to the Norwegian Søren Waerenskjold (34’13”). Belgian Alec Segaert and Briton Leo Hayter completed the podium.

“I finished happy because it was not the time trial that best suited my characteristics and we were competing against the world’s elite. The course had many points where you had to throw the bike and also many downhill sections, where my lighter build is not an ally either. We gave everything on the bike,” said Piganzoli after his participation.
