The ITT that opens the second week of the Giro gives confidence to Team Polti VisitMalta

In the nearly 30-kilometre ITT in Tuscany that kicked off the second week of the Giro d’Italia — won by Hoole (Lidl) — the best finisher for Team Polti VisitMalta at the foot of the iconic Leaning Tower was Mirco Maestri: 39th in 34:53 at an average speed of 49.193 km/h. A similar performance was delivered by Davide Piganzoli, who however had to contend with rain falling on the final part of the course. Nevertheless he managed to stay above 49 km/h and below 35 minutes, thus maintaining his 19th position in the GC.
Sports Director Stefano Zanatta: “Maestri once again proves himself a time trial specialist (he is, after all, European champion in the Team Relay) and Piganzoli confirms his progress in this discipline, he studied the course well and gave a strong performance. Kudos also to the ever-aggressive Alessandro Tonelli, but everyone gave their all and that gives us a lot of confidence. From tomorrow on, it’s all road stages and we know we can achieve important results.”
