Both sprinters in the top-10 and Lonardi reclaims the green jersey at the Tour of Turkey

In the penultimate stage of the Presidential Tour of Türkiye, with the official start at the ancient city of Ephesus and a windy route heading west across the Çeşme peninsula, Team Polti VisitMalta remained ultra-compact: four riders constantly protecting the sprinters, with Pablo García helping in the chase of the 8-men breakaway for a long time. Once the day’s attackers were neutralized 7 kilometers from the end, Giovanni Ellena’s riders avoided any surprises and placed both sprinters in the top-10: in the sprint won by Viviani (Lotto) Giovanni Lonardi finished 7th and regained the points classification lead, while Manuel Peñalver placed 9th close behind.

Lonardi: “It was a chaotic sprint where we couldn’t find the right space to contest the victory, but I’m wearing the green jersey again and I’ll defend it in the last short stage from here to İzmir.”

Ellena: “Our guys worked really well, managing to dodge the numerous crashes in the finale. We’re third in the team classification and tomorrow we want to conclude on a high note!”
