Another top-10 for Gomez at the Tour of Turkey: he’s now 6th in the GC

On stage 6 of the Presidential Tour of Türkiye, Team Polti VisitMalta first resisted the fragmentation of the peloton, which saw around fifty riders reel in the day’s four-men breakaway with 27 kilometers to go. Afterwards Germán Gómez, Fernando Tercero and Diego Sevilla stayed in contention as the main bunch was halved again by the GC teams on the climb to Şirince. On the short but steep final ascent to the House of the Virgin Mary, several attacks followed: behind the winner Lopez (Astana) the Colombian climber of Polti VisitMalta crossed the line in 9th place and moved up to 6th in the overall standings.
Gomez: “After the queen stage two days ago we delivered another great performance, went all out and I’m sure we’ll keep putting on a show in the two stages left!”
Sports Director Giovanni Ellena: “I have to compliment the guys for their unity, especially in the crosswinds that occurred with 45 km to go, and the great work to protect Germán on the double climb that defined the final. Now we’re heading into the weekend aiming to fight for a sprint win.”
