Team Polti VisitMalta wraps up O Gran Camiño with Piganzoli 2nd overall and Lonardi 3rd in the stage

O Gran Camiño, final act: Team Polti VisitMalta finishes the Galician race securing 2nd place in the GC and placing three riders in the top-10 of the final stage!
On the rolling terrain around Santiago de Compostela, the riders led by Jesús Hernández and Giovanni Ellena remained compact in the main group, which controlled a breakaway of nine riders. Then, on the Alto de Lampai, Rochas (Groupama) launched a counterattack but was reeled in with 12 km to go. After another solo attempt was closed down on the gravel sector, Davide Piganzoli defended his second place overall by winning the intermediate sprint in Milladoiro. From there, on the uphill finish, he and his teammates worked together for the sprint on the incline: Giovanni Lonardi finished 3rd, Mirco Maestri 5th, Piganzoli himself 7th. Cort (Uno-X) took the stage win, while Gee (Israel) secured the overall victory.
Lonardi: “This is already my third podium of the season, and my second here at O Gran Camiño after opening the race with one on Wednesday in Portugal. When we saw Piga securing those crucial bonus seconds with 5 km to go, we knew his position was safe so we could focus entirely on the sprint. I got on Cort’s wheel, but I got boxed in and had to settle for third again. Still, it’s another great result that boosts my morale ahead of my next race, the Tirreno-Adriatico.”
Sports director Hernández: “Today’s result, with three Polti VisitMalta riders in the top-10, perfectly reflects how we approached both this final stage and the entire race. Securing four stage podiums and second place overall is the result of both Piga’s evident growth as a rider and the commendable approach of every single athlete in the squad. Our strength lies in collective attitude, unity of purpose, dedication to supporting each other — always ready to put the team first. I’ll never stop saying it!”
