Fran Muñoz

Francisco Muñoz is a Catalan cyclist with Asturian roots whose love affair with cycling began during a summer holiday in Galicia and reached its first zenith, unprecedented within the under-23 structure of the Contador Foundation, with his overall victory in the 2022 Spanish Cup Elite Under-23 overall. One summer, spending his holidays in Galicia, he went out on his bike with his older brother and had a great time. On his return home, to Mataró, he went to the velodrome to see how he could continue. From then until now, although his parents didn’t like him doing road racing at first because of the traffic and road safety issues. He started competing on his own, then he was with Paco Gálvez. As a junior he won the 2019 Catalan Cup and it was the first year in which he started to train every day, and he started to get good results. He made the leap to the under-23 category with Team Compak, Team MP Group. From this structure he jumped to the under-23 structure of the Contador Foundation in 2022 and in 2024 he made the long-awaited jump to professional, after trying as a stagiaire with success, even being in the breakaway in races like the Coppa Bernocchi. The year of his debut was also the year he made his debut in the Giro d’Italia. A last-minute presence that the cyclist was able to take advantage of, with a presence in the breakaways and an important role for his team-mates, regardless of the results. Muñoz is a very consistent rider with no specific tastes in terms of routes, who likes hard races, with complicated routes. The days that are of elimination, of selection. Fran is studying Industrial Electronics and Automation Engineering at the Tecnocampus of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
